Out and about in Lusaka: diary of a funaholic on a budget

Ah Lusaka...ever blessed Lusaka. The hype, the drama, the occassional randomness. It can be all too much but lucky for you I have planned the most ridiculous and exciting day ever for wannabe enthusiasts.

Day: Saturday

Wake up time: 07:00hrs.
Ok seriously. Who wants to wake up at 07:00am on a saturday? Let us begin the day again

Wake up time: 10:00hrs
Get made up and go for branch.

Stop 1: The Deli in Rhodespark
The smell of fresh croissants and a steaming cup of coffee. Nothing beats the Deli on a lazy saturday morning. My absolute favorite thing about the Deli is that the meals are not bite size. They really know how to get a hungry girl going! The sandwiches are usually crispy fresh and they have amazing whole wheat options for people like me who may pretend to be watching their weight. K60 gets you a pretty decent meal and the outdoorsy set up is king if you want to enjoy the ambience. Watch out for rain cause you have to dash into the store to order more food. Two words: Free wifi.
To make your day extra fun, stay on till the afternoon and reward yourself with a well deserved beer or a natural smoothie that will melt your heart with delicious goodness.



14:00hrs: Lunch
Location: Mahak Restaurant on Great East Road, Makishi.

When I am with the friends and we want to wine and dine on a ridiculously low budget, we hit Mahak restaurant. Everyone around me loves affordable Indian food. Mahak on Makishi is a little deserted and you can have the privacy to indulge and go to Punjabi heaven where love smells like fresh garlic naans. Sigh. The best part about Mahak is that they have reasonably priced beers and drinks, sharp waiters and a huge assortment of Indian delights. From Tandoori chicken to lamb, you and your mates can have a whole lot of options that will leave you wanting more. Favorite part about Mahak? Definitely the Special Tali which costs K40 and the waiter keeps walking around with trays to refill your plate until you say STOP..please. You can't share the Tali though because no one is allowed to share Tali.

15:00hrs: afternoon cocktails
Location: Roma SkyBar.
Roma Sky Bar has the making of a beautiful retreat. Come on, the time is only 15:00hrs! You want to sit and chat with friends and catch up. The place is clean, you get a view overlooking the city skylines, you can time your arrival so you catch the sunset which shines on all the cutlery and glasses..and they have a great selection of Spanish music. Roma SkyBar also offers Hookah which will go well with the Indian food gently resting in your tummy. A wide selection of snacks is offered and they also have a great selection of cocktails. Great place to start your evening.

19:00hrs: Interlude to an awesome night
Location: Rhapsody's, Arcades.

'Rhaps' is the best place in the city for cocktails. Full Stop. If you want something classy and delicious to get you started, look no further than Rhapsody's. Sure the bar is always full of  loud men on drinking safari, but there are delightful little tables and sofas for you to seat and unwind. Shooters are ridiculously affordable: they start at k10 and they have some fun names as well.

Me: blowjobs for me and my friends. Six please
My friends giggle and laugh as our waiter brings our shooters
The most affordable cocktail is a classic Martini which will cost you K18.  A long Island is k29 and the glass is big enough for you to carry and enjoy. Live music is also usually present on the weekend.
However, a Dirty Toilet is not just a name of a shooter there.

23:00hrs
Location: 101
K50 gets you in. 101 is usually less busy at this time. It is the perfect time for you and your crew to find good seats and get settled. Order some drinks and wait for the place to fill up. Don't wait for the place to fill up. Dance like you are bringing back 1999 and wait for the place to get jam packed crazy! Dance till your feet hurt. Or dance till the weakest link in your group wants to go home. Day well spent


02:00am: Prelude to an epic Day
Location: On the Run Pizza, Northmead.
Nothing tastes better than a fresh pizza at 02 in the morning. Go ahead, you earned it
